Magnesium Potassium Aspartate is
a dual mineral salt in which magnesium, potassium and aspartate are administered as a
single entity. In view of
Magnesium Potassium Aspartate represents an ideal and useful mineral supplement and satisfies the requirement of optimal nutrition. This proprietary blend is made to cater to the needs of "optimal mineral nutrition". This dietary magnesium potassium aspartate effectively provides magnesium and potassium in the required ratio to the system. In terms of their technical acceptability and nutritional physiology in sports drinks, magnesium potassium is quiet appealing in terms of its bioavailability, solubility and tasks. As a source for food fortification, magnesium potassium aspartate is a dual salt of magnesium and potassium organically bound to the energy rich substance-aspartate. The anion -aspartate is not only capable physiological metabolism but also bioavailable and innocuous to the body. Functional drinks may help to promote well being, prevent illness, replace lost nutrients, and improve physical and mental performance. |

| Requirements | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Food and Nutrition Board of
the Institute of Medicine of the United States National Academy of Sciences has
recommended the following Adequate Intake (AI) and Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA)
values for magnesium
There are no Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) for potassium: the following are the Estimated Minimum Requirements established by the National Academy of Sciences:
Aspartic acid is a metabolic intermediate in several biochemical pathways In the body, including the tricarboxylic acid and urea cycles. Aspartic acid salts are believed to be mineral transporters to the metabolizing cells, aiding in the metabolic process by replenishing vital electrolytes thereby contributing to efficient energy production. In addition, the aspartate moiety is reported to reduce oxygen consumption by the cells during the energy cycle. Potassium and magnesium L-aspartate and DL-aspartate salts have been used clinically to treat fatigue in human subjects. |

Nutritional role of Magnesium |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Magnesium is a vital anti-stress
mineral, which has cardioprotective properties.
Magnesium helps alleviate PMS symptoms and promotes bone and tooth integrity. People suffering from diabetes benefit from higher than normal levels of supplemental magnesium. Recent research revealed that magnesium deficiency accompanies conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and severe headache. |

| Nutritional role of Potassium | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Potassium plays a vital role in
the transmission of electrical impulses through the central nervous system. Potassium helps to maintain the electrolyte balance in the body. Potassium also helps regulate the heart rhythms, stabilize blood pressure levels and may help in the prevention of strokes. Potassium deficiency is often triggered by the excessive use of diuretics and laxatives or junk food diets. This may result in growth retardation, muscle weakness, heart and kidney damage, mental confusion, and apathy. Extreme cases of deficiency can lead to dehydration, heart failure and even death. |

| Mechanism of action of Magnesium Potassium Aspartate | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The proposed mechanisms of
action of magnesium-potassium aspartate include: Stabilization of cellular membranes by normalization of the levels of magnesium and potassium in the cells. Detoxification of ammonia or increase in the tricarboxylic acid-cycle flux. As increased levels of ammonia and depleted levels of potassium and magnesium ions in the plasma are associated with exercise-induced fatigue, this combination of aspartate (which detoxifies ammonia) and magnesium and potassium is particularly relevant in sports nutrition. |

| Role of Potassium/ Magnesium Aspartate in Sports Nutrition | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Potassium/Magnesium Aspartate is
valued in sports nutrition for its role in improving long term athletic performance,
particularly in untrained subjects. Three independent studies reported increased times to exhaustion (23 to 50%) on cycle ergometers after administration of 7 to 13 g per day of potassium-and magnesium D,L aspartate. A significant increase in treadmill performance was observed for untrained subjects on administration of 2 g/day of potassium-magnesium aspartate over a two-week period. Administration of potassium-magnesium aspartate (10 g) to seven trained, competitive male athletes in a double-blind crossover study, 24 hours before testing, found a 14% increase in time to exhaustion for treadmill runs at 75% of the maximum oxygen intake (VO2max). |

| Advantages of Magnesium Potassium Aspartate | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Laboratory experiments on
microorganisms support the coadministration of Aspartic acid, potassium and magnesium. In
studies on Streptomyces hydrogenans, it shown that coadministration increased the uptake
of both ions by the cell membranes. All the three components of the Magnesium Potassium Aspartate namely Magnesium, Potassium and aspartate moiety have important roles in energy production. Aspartate moiety reduces oxygen consumption by the cells during energy cycle This propriety blend is made to cater to the needs of "optimal minerals nutrition".
